Lens Based Photo
Title: Wishing For Peace
Size: 4X6 Medium: Iphone, Sticks, Leaves, and String Completion: September 2020 Exhibition Text: As I had explored a different part of me, that I had caught in my photograph "wishing For Peace" calm, sad and unforgetting. The artist that influenced my photograph was Gina Vasquez, with her photographs they are speechless and powerful. In my photo there were some things that were made by me, the leaves were spray painted white and I had made a leaf crown just by using leafs, sticks and string but what I had used to make my photo was an iphone. Gina Vasquez had influenced me because in one of her photographs was basically a young girl falling from the sky surrounded by nature and for some time now that´s what I had felt like. |

She mentioned she also expresses her feelings with music and writing. When she had finished her 365th project she found it more easy to plain stuff out in advance. She uses props, location, time, or even where would you even find the supplies. Vasquez defines her style of photography as whimsical, creative and colorful. Each photo she does contains something different but based off of her personal life. As an artist the biggest challenge for her was overcoming being shy and embarrassed about taking photos.
Gina is still trying to get to know the camera and what it has to offer. On her website she gives advice about photography like get to know your camera that you are using, don't be afraid of the camera or to try different ideas and be patient because it will take some time to get your photo the way you want it to be. She Captures all sorts of things like what's going on around her, personal life, or it just can even be what she's thinking. As you may see almost all of her photographs are similar, what I mean by similar is that they are dark or there captured when the sun is going down but she also captures her pictures when no one is there. And I feel like when she takes her photos when no one is there, she might be feeling lonely in her life.

Creatively Inspiration:
As an artist I had gotten so many ideas for my photographs but I also had to find an artist that had the same ideas as I did and thats when I had found one of my favorite artist Gina Vasquez. In my final piece I had added my inspiration into my piece like nature and the mood. In Gina Vasquez piece there is a girl thats falling where no one cares, but in my piece I am wanting peace, freedom and happyness. My photography peace is based on COVID - 19, protesting and whats happening in my life. My technique was to take different photos and different shots to make it perfect the way I wanted it to look like.

Planning:
The planning process of planning was pretty easy. I had to drive around to see where would be a great place to take my photos. I went to the beach, empty busy streets, downtown and the main place is the park. I have chosen those places because at the time that's how I was feeling, but if I had captured my-self the way my life is like and the community then my photo can explain everything just by looking at it. In the photo which would be my planning sketch I had explained what I did and A little bit of how I did it. My planning was a success and so was everything else. What I could have worked on was really nothing.

Process & Ideas:
In all 50 pictures, they all are different which can be what I am doing, the way I am standing, sitting or doing something with all different things. I capture my mood, nature and a queen. The ones with me hiding behind the tree branch that was spray painted white becauses there are so many questions but in my final one I capture what im doing even though people can guess what I might be doing and thinking. What I want people to know is how I am feeling, at first I was going crazy being stuck in the house when we were on lockdown, there are so many things that have changed and I guess thats hard on me. This had affected people so I dont how they were feeling but probably the same.

The development of my skills has definitely improved by taking photos and editing them, taking different shots and taking pictures of my own. There are different varieties of my techniques which were taking different angles, pictures, locations and different times. As an artist I've captured something beautiful and something unexpected, but when it comes to photography I get all of these amazing and crazy ideas that just pop in my head. The only way to get those amazing ideas you have to love or have a passion for doing so. Im not going to lie but it was hard trying to set up a camera and me posing or whatever I was trying to do. My creative idea was to spray paint some big branches white and I had made a leaf crown out of sticks, leafs and string. The other creative idea was creating my beautiful photographs and coming up with these ideas.

Compare & Contrast:
The difference with Gina Vasquez is that she is in the air falling but when she falls it might not hurt because the way she might be feeling. She captures a dark background and a little bit of the sunset. And it looks like there is a circle underneath her out of leaves.
|
The similarities between Gina Vasquez and my photograph is that they are both taken at a park, we both are going through somethings in our life and wanted people to realize it. We are both being creative. She had used a chair the crop out to make it look like she was falling and I had made a leaf crown. We both capture something beautiful peace that will make people speechless. |
The difference in my photograph is that my photo was taken around noon. You can see my face and expression and what I am doing. I was being careative by making a leaf crown and spray painting it white.
I am praying for peace in the world as we all go through things with family geating sick, COVID- 19 and being stuck in our homes. |
Reflection:
The overall process of doing lens based photography was pretty fun. At some point when we were starting this project I was confused and didn't know what to do unil I had started doing my photos first. My feelings with this project was that I am happy and excited for everyone to see what I had come up with, my schedule is always busy with school and my personal life but I had got to capture something wonderful and unforgettable. For a while I had troubles finding an artist that I enjoy but an artist that can relate to my photographs. The quality of my iphone had captured some really great stuff but not like a nice camera would so.

ACT Questions
1. Clearly explain describe how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork. The relationship with my artist and I photographs are similar based on the mood and location. My inspiration has affected my artwork because I had gotten a little ideas for her but also she affects me as a person. 2. What is the overall approach (point of view) the author (from your research) has regardingthe topic of your inspiration? Gina Vasquez loves photography, she had taught most of the stuff by herself. She love's to do all sorts of things like Read, Write, Photography and many more things. When she learns one of her new passions she doesn't give up. She fights for it and I believe I can relate. 3. What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, ect. While you researched your inspiration? I am more surprised that people like doing photography more but that's probably you can catch the beauty, and the mood. I mean I am understanding where people are coming from about photography. I really can't say what I like doing the most is because I love to do all sorts of art. While I have done my research, I have learned more about photography, different artist inspirations and how to capture something breathtaking. 4. What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? The main idea based on my research was to get the understanding why people do what the do for photography. But not only that it was based on what I could find about my inspirational artist like how photography affects her in a way, What's the same about mine and hers and all of the other fun stuff. 5. What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research? I have learned a lot about Gina Vasques, between her personal life to why and how she became a photographer, and how she became my inspiration. I am not going to lie. You have to have talent to do this type of art or for anything. It's very competitive and challenging as a college prep student but I am very proud of my skills that I had learned in the past few years. |
